Community Support

REE Eyre staff and Directors are involved and passionate supporters of local sporting, community and charitable organisations. The company has a long held policy of investing its ‘sponsorship’ budget in areas that we believe will provide sustained benefit to as many farming families as possible. Thus, rather than sponsoring individual teams of groups, we invest in several agricultural research and agribusiness initiatives that will deliver long term benefits to our farming community.

EP AGRICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP

FREE Eyre and the Roseworthy Old Collegians Association (ROCA) recently launch the formation of a rural scholarship for an Eyre Peninsula student studying an agricultural related degree with the University of Adelaide.

As a company, we work with our farmer shareholders, clients and partners to investigate and co-invest in the development of new businesses and value adding rural enterprises.  We are passionate supporters of the EPARF and the Peter Waite Foundation but the also believe that investing in the higher education of Eyre Peninsula’s students is critical for the future prosperity of the region.

The new scholarship will be awarded to an Eyre Peninsula student who is studying an agricultural science or business related course and will be administered the University of Adelaide.

FREE Eyre and seven of its key business partners came together to launch the Scholarship and fundraising effort at FREE Eyre’s Hutt Street office to coincide with the Clipsal 500 Race.

Sixty Eyre Peninsula farmers join FREE Eyre and its event partners to raise funds for the Scholarship over the two day event.

PETER WAITE CENTENARY SCHOLARSHIP

2013 marked the centenary of Peter Waite’s donation of his Urrbrae estate to the University of Adelaide for the study of agriculture. This gift has enabled the education of leaders in the field and made a significant contribution to agricultural science research in this state, the country and the world.

To mark the occasion The Peter Waite Scholarship for Excellence in Agriculture was established to support an outstanding future leader in agriculture through their PhD studies in the area of plants or soil science. Providing $30,000 per annum, the scholarship is to support living, educational, research and travel costs for the recipient.

This prestigious scholarship is aimed to attract and retain the best young people in the industry. It is envisaged that this will become a scholarship of national and international profile, rewarding the best international candidates and placing them at the Waite Campus for their studies.

FREE Eyre is a proud donor to the The Peter Waite Scholarship for Excellence in Agriculture.

EP FIELD DAYS

In 2012, the FREE Eyre Board elected to fund the installation of a significant 3kW solar farm at the Eyre Peninsula Field Days site at Cleve. The solar farm was designed to produce enough electricity to mitigate the cost of electricity to the Field Days ‘enterprise’ for the next 30 years.  It is effectively a long-term, ongoing and gauranteed financial sponsorship from the Eyre Peninsula’s farmers and agribusiness, for the Eyre Peninsula’s farmers and agribusinesses.
